Cllr Andrew Kirke has reported a significant and deeply unpleasant incident of fly-tipping on the A516 to the South Derbyshire District Council’s Clean Team for urgent investigation and removal.
He described the scale and nature of the waste dumped at the roadside as completely unacceptable. The A516 is a key route for residents, commuters and visitors travelling past Etwall, and incidents like this damage the appearance of the area while placing an unnecessary burden on local taxpayers. Fly-tipping is a criminal offence that harms the environment, poses risks to wildlife, and creates potential hazards for road users.
Cllr Kirke thanked the Council’s Clean Team for their swift response and expressed confidence that the authority’s enforcement officers will carry out a thorough investigation. Where evidence is available, he hopes those responsible will be identified and that the Council will pursue another successful prosecution.
He added that South Derbyshire has taken firm action against offenders in the past and will not hesitate to do so again. There are legitimate and affordable ways to dispose of waste, and there is no excuse for blighting local roads and countryside.
Residents who witnessed the incident or who have information that may assist the investigation are encouraged to report it directly to South Derbyshire District Council.
