Pat Murray: ‘Man of the People’ has lived in South Derbyshire for more than fifteen years, and in 2007, was elected to represent Hartshorne & Ticknall Ward on South Derbyshire District Council. Due to changes made by the Boundary Commission in early 2011 which dispersed that Ward, Pat successfully stood to represent Woodville Ward in May 2011. He was Chairman of the Council for the year 2014/2015, a position he also held in 2009/2010.
In 2009, he was elected to represent the Midway & Hartshorne Division on Derbyshire County Council and was appointed Chairman of the Scrutiny panel responsible for Resources.
Pat is originally from north London and left school at 15, when he went into retail as a shop assistant in a supermarket. After completing a City & Guilds qualification in Business and Retail Merchandising, Pat went to work for Tesco for eight years. At 21 he became the youngest supermarket manager in the country and eventually became a District Manager. From there, he moved to Texas Homecare and moved up the corporate ladder to become Operations Director. He decided to leave Texas when they were taken over by Homebase. Afterwards he went to work as a trouble-shooter for the former Gateways supermarket chain; then moved to Budgens and worked at their flagship store in Bayswater, London. Five years later, he set up a pine furniture company with a group of friends. When he moved to South Derbyshire, he set up his own property maintenance business.
Pat is keen to promote the area and supports as many activities and organisations as possible within South Derbyshire. He has been actively involved with a number of groups and organisations, including The Royal British Legion, YMCA, Gresley FC, Friends of Oakland Village and Neighbourhood Watch.
