New Free School in South Derbyshire

Monday, 8 February, 2021

The government has recently approved the building of 21 new free schools across the UK, one of which will be in South Derbyshire. Infinity Park Spencer academy will be based just outside Chellaston in South Derbyshire. Over 80% of new free schools have been rated as good or outstanding by Ofsted, raising standards and ensuring that every child gets a high-quality education.

One of our main commitment since being elected in 2019 has been to help level-up the country and one way we can do that is by raising the standard of education.

Heather Wheeler MP for South Derbyshire said, "Education can be the key to children success, so receiving a high-quality education is pivotal. I am delighted that families across South Derbyshire will benefit from the creation of school places that Infinity Park Spencer Academy will bring. This school will be in one of the fastest-growing areas of South Derbyshire so it is good to see this necessary infrastructure being built."

Councillor Neil Atkin also welcomed the news, he said, "I welcome the creation of Infinity Park Spencer academy, it will be an asset to the area, creating jobs and ensuring children receive a good education"

Not only are we building free schools to close the attainment gap, but we are also investing in education. Funding in our primary and secondary schools will increase by £14 billion over the next three years. Tin 2020-21 the school budget increased by £2.6 billion and next year it will increase by £4.8 billion and in 2021-22.

Education in South Derbyshire is good but we can always strive to improve and the creation of a new free school in one of the fastest-growing areas and investing in education will do just that. This pandemic has proven a challenge learning remotely but every student should still receive a quality education.
